Rohina kabir: Scarborough Southwest

Rohina kabir: Scarborough Southwest

My name is Rohina Kabir. I am a resident in the federal riding of Scarborough Southwest and I am a fourth-year student studying Politics and Governance at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. I am a volunteer at the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture as a Toronto District School Board (TDSB) teacher’s assistant and mentor for refugee teens. I also work at the Diversity Institute at my university as a research assistant. I am currently doing my placement at Chrystia Freeland’s constituency office, who is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and MP for University and Rosedale riding. My first-hand experiences of having to face poverty, gender inequality, lack of education facilities, and recent refugee issues inspired me to pursue a path in politics. As a visible minority woman, I want to have a role in Canadian politics so that I can work to dismantle the systems of inequalities that we currently have to face so that the future generations of girls and women can have easier access to opportunities.
