Ruth Baker: Parry Sound-Muskoka

My passion is for people. I believe in taking care of the most vulnerable while being responsible for our environment. I believe in having empathy for others, and always leading with honesty and an open attitude. I believe in having goals and making a plan to reach them. I have a passion for whole foods and exercise and I love to educate the people around me with the knowledge I have gained. I also have a growing love for social activism which I am proud of. Growing up in Muskoka, I was homeschooled by my mother before entering the public school system in grade 6. One of the highlights from my high school career was my grade 12 exchange to Whale Cove Nunavut where I learned about the strength and diversity of the north. That year I was also named Miss Muskoka, and placed in the top 15 contestants in the Miss North Ontario Pageant in Sudbury. After graduating from Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, I went on to study Culinary Management at Niagara College, while also working seasonally in Jasper, Alberta as a pastry cook. After returning to Muskoka, I began working for my current employer, The Pines Long Term Care Home. This was were my interest in healthcare began; I am now studying Practical Nursing in a part-time program at Georgian College, Muskoka Campus.
