Chief & Council
- Most First Nations communities have an elected group of representatives, known as Chief and Council. They are the governing body of the community and/or reserve and make the key decisions.
- When working with a specific First Nation community, it is important to meet with the Chief and Council, or any other form of governance system, and local elders present in that community to ensure you are doing everything in the appropriate manner
Federal Indigenous Organizations
- In response to calls for action from Indigenous families, communities and organizations, as well as non-governmental and international organizations, the Government of Canada launched an independent National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) in September 2016
