Sahanna Ranganathan: Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry

My name is Sahaana Ranganathan and I am a second year Public Affairs and Policy Management student at Carleton University. I have always been interested with government and the ability to effect change through legislation or policy. It sounds like a dry subject for a kid to be interested in, but I always knew I wanted to be on the forefront of creating positive change. In my pursuit to help my community, I have been involved in extracurriculars like volunteering for NGOs, being a Carleton First Year Connections Mentor and being the Executive Director of Internal Affairs at UNICEF Carleton. I think it’s important to give back to your community and to be an active member in the decision-making process. I have also participated in other interactive programs like the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Highschool Model Parliament. I have learned a lot about legislation since then and hope to have the chance to apply my education in an experiential learning opportunity. I love trying new things because it’s a great way to learn about new topics! I love to travel and to meet new people as it broadens your perspective. I am passionate about fostering gender equality in rural communities and empowering young women to take agency in their lives. I want to combat climate change as it is a transnational issue that jeopardizes out future. Lastly, I think every individual has a right to educate themselves and therefore I believe in implementing free post-secondary education
