As part of the Canadian Women Parliamentarians (CWP) annual national event series, Saskatchewan will be welcoming a select number of female MLA/MPPs across the country in October.
To this end, the hosts for this event at the Saskatchewan legislature have warmly extended an invitation for the fourteen young women chosen for Daughters to join CWP participants on October 2nd and 3rd.
Notably, Saskatchewan was the second of three prairie provinces to grant some women the right to vote in provincial elections 100 years ago, in 1916.
The leader of the suffrage movement in Saskatchewan was Violet Clara McNaughton (1879-1968), a British homesteader and social activist.
From her position as the organizer and first President of the Women Grain Growers in Saskatchewan, McNaughton encouraged various women's organizations in the province to work together for the cause of women's suffrage. And she succeeded!
